I've been having similar thoughts about my Celica.
On one hand, I love the damn thing in all its PITA glory. On the other hand, I own a home and could really use a truck/something with a tow package. The wife has an SUV (Enclave) without a tow package and I regretted that since we bought it. I can't afford to pick up a beater truck as I just dumped a bunch of money to landscape our backyard (all of that in the back was terribly sloped, so I had a rockery installed and had it re-graded).
I've always wanted a Wrangler, but there's a nice 4Runner for sale/trade nearby that's pretty enticing. Then, there's a Miata that's trying to garner my interest. Ugh.

What do you need to tow?

I will buy your Celica. I once had a chance to buy a 81 Supra fro 1200bucks , but I bought a 97 Acura Integra GSR sedan instead. I didn't even go see the Supra in person. Still regret it.
You could probably just make/buy a hitch for the Celica, and get a little 4x6 light weight trailer tho.

I know the feel. I want to trade in my Ralliart for something RWD and less boring (when I mean less boring, I want a car that will literally try and kill me.) AWD is too ez mode.

What year 4Runner? If it is 83-88 with the 22RE or 96-02 with the 3.4, I would choose it any day over a Wrangler. More comfort, more stuff not breaking, and realistically just as capable.

Mainly utility trailers, possibly a small boat (think row boat) in the near future. I'm not looking to tow a 5th wheel or anything. Wife had a Z71 Suburban prior to the Enclave, and it was handy to have the capability to tow stuff.

It can, but it has a ridiculously small towing capacity if you don't install a trans cooler and a couple other things.

Ooohhhhh..... Kinda like our CX-9. 2000lbs if FWD, 3500lbs if AWD, since the AWD has the larger rad, trans cooler, etc.
Surely the lower capacity is enough for the work you'll ask it to do. It's not like you're towing an Airstream across the state, right?

Cool. I'm getting sick of the crapalier too. Too bad no money for an upgrade in the near future. Oh well.

Won't be fast, but I would definitely buy that over a Wrangler.
